My Philosophy
Now you know about what I do, but you may be wondering what it is that I believe, and what my values are surrounding birth. These are just the highlights of what is important to me in and around the issue of birth.
I believe that it is the right of every woman to feel empowered and strong in her birth experience.
I believe that all women should be supported in their choices around childbirth- where and how to give birth, to have or not have medication, and who is with her at the time her baby comes into the world.
I believe that every woman has the potential to have a joyful, fulfilling, positive birth experience.
I believe that birth is a profoundly life-changing event in a woman's life that will stay with her forever.
I believe that birth is often not recognized as important, and is sometimes treated as "just another day in a woman's life," when it is so much more than that.
I believe that the act of bringing a child into the world is a natural, wonderful, and beautiful event.
I believe that all women deserve dignity and sensitive care during labour and delivery of a child.
I believe in "mothering the mother," that every woman needs to be comforted, nurtured, and loved as she gives birth to her baby.
And most of all, I believe that every woman, regardless of income, race, creed, or sexual orientation, will benefit by having a doula to enrich and support the amazing event that is birth.
